Roxy Jam in Biarritz, France- second edition : July 11-16th 2007

Guess who make an appearance in the new TomTomProductions surf movie "The Sport of Kings" [trailer] ???? If you were at the world Premiere at La Paloma Theatres on Nov 22nd, you may have recognized Fred/Val tandem surfing at Swamis and Fred surfing with... his paddle at Cardiff Reef.

After Biarritz, Roxy Jam: The Cardiff Edition

Linda Benson was hosting the Roxy Jam in Cardiff Reef (september 23-24 '06) and invited us as well as our friends Caleb/Wendy, Bobby/Tiare Friedman, Chuck/Kelia to do a tandem exhibition. We surfed during the Legend expression session, featuring Linda Benson, Lisa Anderson, Donald Takayama, Steve Walden, Skip Frye, Jericho Poppler... With perfect weather/swell conditions, our friend and talented photographer, Ben Snare, came to shoot. Click here to see his amazing gallery [Ben's pix]... Back to the shore, we were greeted by Jack, a photo fanatic that we met shooting a couple of our late sessions at Swami's. Thank you Jack for always mailing us the prints so quickly ! First World Tandem Surfing Championship : we were there !!!

Last August, in Waikiki (Hawaii) took place a milestone in tandem surfing history: the first world tandem surfing championship. Approved by ISA and ITSA, this unique contest was held thanks to Rico Leroy (France) and Bear Woznick (Hawaii), who did a wonderful job, devoting their time and even their own funds to make this international contest a huge success.
More than 30 couples (from mainland USA, Hawaii and Europe) came to compete, but more importantly, came to celebrate their passion for tandem surfing. We had the honor to come as "invitees", meaning that, we did not have to qualify through the trial rounds to enter the contest. Unfortunately, our competition journey stopped in the quarters... Despite our disapointment, we felt privileged to be part of such a great event which gathered such talented tandem teams! See you all next year!

Local TV channels getting excited by tandem surfing.... and the first World Championship.

Last August you may have seen familiar faces on TV, talking of their passion with a french accent... Fred and Val were interviewed by two local TV channels. The first story was recorded on August 16th at La Jolla Shores by reporter Andrea Nakano for NEWS8 (KFMB station/CBS) and aired the same day during the 5pm news. If you missed it you can still watch the [clip] online. On August 19th, they were interviewed live in the studio of Good Morning San Diego (KUSI NEWS TV). But the true star was the first Tandem World Championship about to be held in Waikiki. More news about this great event soon !

"Souvenirs" from Roxy Jam in Biarritz

Fred and Val jammed at the first Roxy Jam held last July in Biarritz (Cote des Basques). Big screen, professional photographers, large crowd, the best female longboarders in the world, it was a unforgettable experience for them. They performed in the expression session on July 8th with perfect 3-5 foot waves. Check out the gallery by Christiane Montel (Val’s mom) [pix]. They would like to thank the contest organizers for their welcoming and also Benoit from the Biarritz Surf Club for sharing his tandem board and for making sure their stuff was not getting wet by the tide! Great, great, great memories…

"We had a blast at the 2nd Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am held in june at Moonlight Beach, Encinitas [pix]. This event, brought by Switchfoot, a successful rock band from San Diego, was benefiting Casa de Amparo, an Oceanside organization for abused and neglected children. Despite the tandem unfriendly waves, we did an exhibition and some water footage for MTV !!! Thank you to the Switchfoot for the great concert."
